How to Create and Use Promo Codes

Promo codes are a great way to offer discounts and boost ticket sales. Customers enter the code at checkout to get a discount on selected tickets or the full order.

☝️ Want to show a discount automatically in the widget? Use a Promotion instead. Promo codes and promotions can’t be used together.

Promo Code Settings

  • Validity period: Set a start and end date. Once expired, the promo code stops working. If no end date is set, it remains valid until ticket sales for the event close.

  • Applicable tickets: A promo code can apply to specific ticket categories or all tickets.

  • Usage limits: You can limit the number of times a promo code can be used, either by orders or tickets. Once the limit is reached, the promo code will no longer work.

  • Discount type: Choose between a fixed amount or a percentage discount.

  • Minimum ticket quantity: The promo code can be set to activate only when a certain number of tickets are in the cart.

Ways to Create Promo Codes

1. Manual Entry

Create a custom code like **FRIENDS20** or **WELCOME10**. Each code must be unique and at least 3 characters long.

2. Automatic Generation

Let the system create multiple unique codes using a format like:

prefix + random code + suffix

Example: super3n21yjsale

Generated codes will be sent to your email.

How to Create a Promo Code

1. Go to Promotion → Promo Codes and click Add

2. Choose Manual or Automatic creation

3. Select the events the code applies to (or leave blank for all)

4. Set usage limits (by number of orders or tickets)

5. Choose the discount type (fixed or percentage) and enter the value

6. Set the validity period (start and end date/time)

7. Define ticket quantity conditions (e.g. min. 2 tickets to apply)

8. Choose where the code can be used:

- Widget (your site or distributor widgets)

- Box Office (if using XTIX’s box office)

- API (for custom integrations)

☝️ To allow use in distributor widgets, leave “Restrict sales channels” unchecked.

9. Review and click Create

✅ Once created, only the validity period and usage limits can be edited. To change other settings, delete and recreate the code.

Example Use Case

Post on social media:

🎉 “Use code **EARLYBIRD30** for 30% off the first 10 orders!”

This creates urgency and encourages early sales.

How to Track Promo Code Usage

- Go to Promotion → Promo Codes

- Select a code and click Statistics

- You’ll see how many tickets were sold and total order value

- Promo code data also appears in order and ticket reports
